Bob Fenner: Anemones for Aquarium Use, Husbandry - 2017 Reef-A-Palooza California

Robert M. Fenner was born in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the United States. He grew up in the Orient because his father was career military. He found little work on base but was fortunate to secure employment at a fish store associated with a restaurant in downtown Sasebo (Japan). He worked for a Betta culture business and later collected and processed marine fish in Manila (Philippines).

Back to the U.S. in the late sixties, Bob stuck to the trade as a retail clerk, a livestock wholesale worker (for Pratt's in San Diego), and eventually formed an aquarium service business with a school friend.

Bob has been an avid hobbyist since first memories. He was actively involved in The San Diego Tropical Fish Society (SDTFS) in the sixties and helped form all three goldfish/koi clubs in San Diego. He has also been active in scientific, industry, and professional organizations such as the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the International Association for Aquatic Animal Medicine (IAAAM), and the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists (ASIH).

Bob is the owner of Wet Web Media, a treasure trove of information on all things aquaria. He is also the author of many popular books we often reference here in the office, including The Conscientious Marine Aquarist and Reef Invertebrates: An Essential Guide to Selection, Care and Compatibility.

In his 2017 presentation at Reef-A-Palooza California, Bob shares his decades of knowledge and experience to help hobbyists like us keep anemones alive and healthy long-term in our aquariums.
